Philip Woo is a pianist, multi-keyboardist, bandleader, producer and composer based in Tokyo.

 

Philip has been a force in music from the 1970's.

 As a member of Roy Ayers Ubiquity, he recorded many of Roy Ayers hits, including Everybody Loves the Sunshine, Running Away, Searching, Vibrations, Freaky Deaky, Can You See Me. These songs have been sampled by Mary J Blige, Eryka Badu, Tribe Called Quest, Incognito, and countless hip-hop and rap artists.

 

Becoming a longtime member of Maze Featuring Frankie Beverly, Philip recorded some of their biggest hits, including ‘Joy And Pain’, and 'Before I Let Go'. He toured the world with Maze for more than 15 years.

Taking a break from Maze, Philip joined Grover Washington Jr., riding the wave of his Grammy Award for 'Just The 2 Of Us'. During this time period, Philip joined a world tour with Whitney Houston at her peak of success. Also recording and touring with Grammy artist Jeffery Osborne.

Philip also joined Kenny G for a world tour in his early success. Philip also recorded at Philadelphia International Records, appearing on albums with The O'Jays, The Four Tops, The Stylistics, Patti Labelle, and Womack & Womack. Philip became a member of C+C Music factory, replacing the original keyboardist /producer David Cole. He recorded all of their studio keyboards for 2 years. Philip returned to Maze after a 6 year break. He resumed recording and world tours. In this time frame, Philip toured and recorded with Cyndi Lauper, and did a world tour with Martika ('Toy Soldiers')

 

 Philip has lived in Japan since 1998, and has been performing live, recording, and producing.

 

 Philip has been a recording and touring member with Toshinobu Kubota since they met in New York in 1994.

 

 Philip has collaborated with DJ Frankie Valentine of UK, co-producing with drummer Tony Allen. Also collaborating with Detroit DJ Recloose.

He co-produced and arranged Sowelu's debut single, 'Across My Heart', composed, arranged and produced her song 'Call My Name'.

 

 Philip also produced 2 songs for Fayray. He composed arranged and produced 'We Got Rhythm' for artist Kohshi Kishita.

Philip has also recorded with Toshinobu Kubota, Hirai Ken, Chemistry, Shota Shimizu, AI, Kreva, The Gospellers, Scoop on Somebody, Hiromi Go, Fayray, Kazuhiko Kato, and more.

 Recently he composed, arranged and produced the song 'Love Me,Hold Me' for Milliya Kato's latest CD.

 シアトル出身のフィリップ・ウーは、ソウル/R&B/JAZZ/POPを中心に活躍するアジア系のキーボーディスト。

 19歳の時Roy Ayersに見出され、Tour参加に伴いNew York移住する。

以降、Whitney Houston, Grover Washington Jr, Cyndi Lauper, Roy Ayers, C+C Music Factory, Martika, Ashford & Simpson, Patti Labelle, Maze Featuring Frankie Beverly, Phyliss Hyman, Debbie Harry, Jeffery Osborne, Roberta Flack, Kenny G, Gladys Knight & the Pips, George Howard, The O`Jays, The Four Tops, Terumasa Hino, Noel Pointer, Candi Staton, and more...のRecording、Tour Memberなどをつとめ、この他にも世界で活躍する数え切れないほど多くの素晴らしいミュージシャン達と共演をし、強い信頼を得ている。

クラブシーンでは、DJ Frankie Valentine, DJ Recloose, DJ Calm, Gaku Mc, Grand Gallery, Roy Ayers Remixed, James Mason, RAMP, Joe Claussel, Kreva...etc の賞賛を受け、共演を果たしている。

他にも、Stevie Wonder, BB King, Curtis Mayfield, James Ingram, Brandy, Nancy Wilson, Al Jarreau, Crosby Stills and Nash, Jermaine Jackson and many more...とTVで共演した経歴を持つ。

現在日本において、久保田利伸、EXILE、Kreva、平井堅、加藤ミリヤ、清水翔太、AI、Sowelu、Chemistry、木下航志、Scoop on Somebody、Fayray、郷ひろみ、加藤和彦、などのRecording、楽曲提供、Tour Member、Produceをつとめるなど活動拠点を日本におきながら、勢力的にアメリカでのセッションなどに参加。

2008年には、フィリップのルーツでもあるMazeの活動も再開するなど、熟練のキーボードプレイで、多くの聴衆の心を惹きつけてやまない。2009年には、Maze来日公演も成功させている。
